Proposed path of Shirley Trail.

A new and exciting “thing” is happening in our town starting in the Spring of 2021.  The “thing” is a trail for walking, biking, etc.  The trail will be approximately 1 mile it will start in the historical district and connect to our park.  The proposed trail would start near the Octagon House heading east to the park border, continue behind the ball diamonds, around the playground, north up 2nd Street and merging back onto South Railroad Street.  Not only will we have an asphalt walk way but we hope to incorporate work on our existing ball diamond as well as completing a little league diamond and possible upgrades to our existing basketball/tennis courts. We hope to be able to incorporate fitness stations and some story boards around the historical district. We will be having a survey and meetings to gauge public interest for what you would like to see in this project.

This project is part of the Health and Heritage Region – Fortville, Greenfield, Hancock County Stellar Communities Designation Program.  Funding is provided by a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Community Development Block Grant thru the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs. The only cost to the town is for administrative fees.

Soon we will be publishing a survey looking for input from the town.  Please take a look at the survey and give us your ideas! We are eager to design a project to enhance the community park and historical area in our community.
